Botulinum toxin is used as a neuromodulator in muscle tissue, typically of the face, to ‘freeze’ the muscles. This reduces the contraction of the muscles, which then reduces the movement of the skin laying on top of the treated area. Popular treatment areas are the forehead and around the eyes, giving a smooth, relaxed look to the skin. Used regularly, the surface of the skin has fewer opportunities to crease, resulting in decreased deep wrinkles over time.
